How to Use the Map: Core Functions

The HazView map is the main interface for viewing hazards, completing inspections, placing new hazards and managing site information.

The map displays your site imagery, hazards, features, inspections and any additional layers your site has added.

The map supports the following actions (Figure 3):
  1. Viewing hazards
  2. Completing inspections
  3. Switching layers on and off
  4. Viewing past hazards

All users have access to the map and can modify what is shown on their map (Figure 4). Verified user Roles can add, edit and manage information from within the map view.

Accessing and Using the Map

Step 1. Download the latest imagery

On the home screen you will see available maps that can be downloaded. The latest maps will begin downloading automatically.

Ensure they are fully downloaded before going offline. You know they are fully downloaded when you have a green tick on the right hand side.

Step 2: Open the map

Select the map icon to access the map.

On large screens this will be on the left. On small screens this will be at the bottom.

You will automatically be taken to your site and all active hazards and features will be shown by default.

Tip: If you are lost, turn the GPS location off and on again. It will automatically zoom to your position.

Step 3. Controlling the map

Use one finger or left click to drag the map. Use two fingers to zoom in or out or scroll on a computer.

You can zoom to any part of the site to inspect hazards more closely.

If multiple hazards/features are close to each other, an orange cluster marker will appear. Tap on this cluster to zoom it automatically.

Selecting a Hazard or Feature

Tap any icon to open the hazard or features properties, details, media, comments and more.

On large screens this will appear in a sidebar on the left.

On small screens this will be a panel that appears from the bottom. Swipe up on the panel to see more information including the description, photos, actions, controls and TARP rating.

Tips

  1. Layers help reduce clutter when working in busy areas. Turn off the ones you don't need to see
  2. If blocklines or other geometry becomes too busy, turn them off unless required
  3. If you are lost, turn the GPS location off and on again. It will automatically zoom to your position

Troubleshooting

  1. If the map will not load, check your network connection or allow time for offline mode to initialise
  2. If an expected hazard is not showing, make sure the correct feature statuses are visible (e.g. active hazards)
  3. If layers do not toggle, close and reopen the map screen
  4. If your location dot does not show, confirm your device has location permissions enabled and that it has a GPS chip (some models of iPads do not have this c
