[Video Guide] A day in the life of an OCE

Overview

This guide walks through a typical shift for an Open Cut Examiner using HazView.
It shows how each part of the workflow fits together from pre-start to final report submission.
The goal is to give new OCEs a clear picture of how HazView supports statutory requirements and daily operational work.




Start of Shift

Log in and open the map

Open HazView on your device and ensure the map loads correctly.
Confirm you can see active hazards, layers and your site imagery.

Review outstanding hazards

Select each active hazard in your inspection area.
Check TARP levels, controls, comments and any outstanding actions.

Check alerts

Open the alerts panel to see what changed during the previous shift.
Take note of escalated hazards or updated conditions.

During Inspection

Begin the inspection route

Select the Record Inspection button.
Walk your statutory inspection route while monitoring conditions.
Your inspection path turns green as you progress.

Review hazards on the ground

Select hazards as you encounter them.
Swipe up for full details.
Update status or TARP levels if conditions have changed.

Add new hazards

If you identify new hazards, log them immediately.
Accurate placement and photos help supervisors and incoming shifts.

Complete checklists

If gas checks or other site checklists are required, submit them through the checklist tool.

After Inspection

Finalise updates

Once inspections are complete, make any final adjustments to hazard details.
Ensure your route is fully recorded on the map.

Move to the OCE Report Generator

Open oce.hazview.com on your device.
Incoming and outgoing examiners populate automatically based on inspection activity.

Completing the OCE Report

Update keypoints

Add important operational notes for the incoming shift.
Include any changes in ground conditions, active controls or new hazards.

Review inspection coverage

Ensure all required areas are marked as inspected.
Green areas indicate successful coverage.

Generate the report

Select Generate Report.
Review the summary, confirm details and prepare for printing.

Submit and print

Submit the report to save it in the cloud.
Print a hard copy for signing if required by your site.

End of Shift

Handover

Discuss critical updates with the incoming examiner.
Refer to keypoints, hazard changes and alerts raised throughout the shift.

Logout and sync

Ensure the app has synced before leaving site.
If offline during the shift, allow time for syncing once back in coverage.


Tips for OCEs

• Add hazards as soon as they are seen
• Use clear descriptions to avoid confusion for the next shift
• Check alerts daily to remain aware of site changes
• The more information you include, the smoother the handover
• Weekly review past hazards for trend awareness
